Mammoth Grinder / Hatred Surge split (2011)

Genre: Crust / Sludge / Powerviolence

I haven't heard many 2011 releases yet so I shouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions but this has got to be  candidate for the best release of the year. One of the heaviest combos I've ever heard. Mammoth Grinder brings a stompier and sludgier approach to this release than their style on Extinction Of Humanity, with much better vocal work. They rerecorded a new version of Societal Collapse from EoH that absolutely shreds along with the other two MG tracks on the split. Hatred Surge is not really my thing but I liked their side as well. Well produced, well played, and extremely heavy powerviolence. All fans of Instinct Of Survival, Nuclear Death Terror, Siege, and Golers NEED to listen to this split.

Libyans

Genre: Punk / Hardcore

Libyans is an energetic female fronted punk band from Boston. Similar in style to Government Warning, Direct Control, and other Richmond, VA hardcore bands. The shining point of this band is definitely Elizabeth's vocals and catchy choruses that stick in your head long after the albums are over. For fans of Richmond, VA style hardcore and White Lung.

Brain Killer

Genre: Crust

Its been a while since I've posted any crust so here's some filler. They're not the best crusties on the block but it's some decent stuff to hold you folks over until I find some good 2011 treats. Brain Killer hails from Massachusetts playing a noisy style of crust that sounds kind of like a gross combination of nailbombs exploding and a bad recording of the Obscene Extreme Festival. Decent for fans of Driller Killer, Pisschrist, Anti Cimex, Wrathcobra, and Extinction Of Mankind.

Cult Ritual - LP1 (2009)

Genre: Hardcore

Interesting one here. Cult Ritual broke up last year and left us with this beautiful piece of hardcore. Not much else to say since I can't much info on this band and I just found them recently. The album is fairly short, maybe 25 minutes to half an hour, some songs are unusually long while others don't even break a minute. Good shit for fans of Slices, Confines, Pissed Jeans, Ceremony, Empty Vessel, Socialcide, and Poison Idea.

Slices

Genre: Hardcore / Noise Punk

Oh man, what a find. Slices is a noisy hardcore band from Pittsburgh that should, if you frequent this blog, make you smile ear to ear. They've got two 7's (both with the same title) and a full length that are sure to give you the best migraine headache you've ever had. A must for fans of Pissed Jeans, Pisschrist, Natural Law, Empty Vessel, Life Trap, and Drunkdriver.

FEAR

Genre: Punk

Fear is an American punk band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1977, and is still active today. Credited for helping to shape the sound and style of American hardcore punk. the band started out as part of the early California punk rock scene, and gained national prominence after an infamous 1981 performance on Saturday Night Live. Possibly on of the most offensive bands of their time.
